Excellent views over Stuttgart
The Karlshöhe is 343 metres above sea level, around 100 metres above the valley floor, and offers a magnificent view of large parts of the Stuttgart valley basin as far as the Neckar valley and the Schurwald forest. In 1889, on the 25th anniversary of King Karl's reign, the former Reinsburgh Hill was renamed Karlshöhe at the suggestion of the Stuttgart Beautification Association. This anniversary was also the occasion for the association to build a small bridge in the south of the grounds. You can still see this arched bridge with iron railings today. At that time, bridges were a popular design element in garden design, especially in English landscape gardens.
In 1989, Karlshöhe was added to the list of cultural monuments as a public park together with important individual elements - the arched bridge, the Willy Reichert Relay and the Pallas Athena Fountain. There is no better place to enjoy a magnificent view of the Stuttgart valley basin and its vineyards than the ‘Tschechen und Söhne’ beer garden on Karlshöhe. It's worth making a detour up here at any time of year!
